Cologne
Spanning the Rhine River and dominated by it’s twin-spired gothic Cathedral, Cologne is a lovely city blending the old with the new.
Must Dos On A Visit To Cape Town
Cologne Cathedral
Peaking out above the rooftops, the spires of Cologne Cathedral can be seen across the city. Construction began on the Cathedral in 1248 but was then halted in 1560 before it had been completed, before finally being finished in 1880. It is free to enter the Cathedral but there is a fee to climb upto the Bell Tower (warning: over 500 winding, narrow steps with no lift option!).
River Rhine
As one of Europe’s major rivers, it is the second longest in Central and Western Europe. Since Roman Times, the Rhine has been a vital waterway for trade and the transport of goods. It’s the perfect place for a walk, to sit on the banks in the sun, or to enjoy a river cruise and a different view of Cologne.
Old Town
Surrounding the Cathedral is the Old Town area of Cologne, filled with cobbled streets and small squares where cafes and restaurants spill out into outdoor seating areas. A perfect place to wander, take in the architecture and grab a bite to eat.
Lindt Chocolate Museum
Located on The Rhine, The Chocolate Museum is well worth a visit to see the process of how chocolate is made and of course, sample a piece or two! There is a wonderful shop and cafe to enjoy at the end of your tour.
